Buenos Aires by night
A few more shots from our recent trip to Buenos Aires. The architecture was incredible, with a ton of French, Italian and English architecture from the late 1800s and early 1900s. I would love someone to explain why back home in Toronto we don’t have anything remotely close to what we see here despite the fact that at the turn of the century both Canada and Argentina were at similar levels of development.
Here are my theories for why the architecture there beats ours hands down:
- We’re descended from the British and are therefore cheap while the Italian-descended Argentines like to spend
- Slavery
- A focus on public works vs. other types of investment
